NCD AWARENESS
Educating the community
This Sunday, listeners tuned in to a special edition of Kipindi Maalumu on Mtawala Radio for an insightful discussion focused on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) under the theme: “NCD Awareness: Beyond Diabetes and Hypertension.”
Hosted by Dr Mtawala, the program brought together passionate medical students from TAMSA Kairuki and Tanzania Medical Students' Association to educate the public on the growing burden of non-communicable diseases and the importance of early awareness and prevention.
The guest speakers included Gladness Ndemo, Kevin Sedoyeka, and Adventina Lisso, who shared valuable insights on how NCDs extend beyond commonly discussed conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. The discussion highlighted other major NCDs, lifestyle risk factors, prevention strategies, and the role young people can play in promoting healthier communities.
Throughout the session, the speakers emphasized the importance of regular health checkups, healthy eating habits, physical activity, mental wellness, and avoiding harmful lifestyle behaviors. They also encouraged the public to become more informed about diseases that often develop silently but have long-term impacts on individuals, families, and healthcare systems.
The program served as another example of TAMSA Kairuki’s continued commitment to community health education and advocacy, using media platforms to reach wider audiences and inspire positive health actions within society.
Listeners were able to follow the session live through the Mtawala Radio website and online radio applications, making the discussion accessible to audiences across different locations.
