This October, from the 5th to the 10th, the 14th TAMSA General Assembly and the 16th International Scientific Conference were successfully held at Gold Crest Hotel, Mwanza, Tanzania Organized and hosted by CUHAS-BUGANDO. The event brought together hundreds of medical students, healthcare professionals, and experts from across the country and beyond to discuss crucial healthcare topics, innovations, and challenges in the sector.

Medico-Entrepreneurs Showcase: For the first time, TAMSA introduced the Medico-Entrepreneurs platform, where medical students who also run businesses showcased their products and innovative solutions. This session demonstrated the blend of medical knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit within the student community.

Moot Court Committee: A significant development during this assembly was the establishment of the first Moot Court Committee. This committee will focus on legal and ethical aspects of healthcare, ensuring students are prepared for the complex challenges they may face in their future careers.

Scientific Conference: The 16th International Scientific Conference was a major highlight, with students from different TAMSA chapters presenting their research through oral presentations and posters. These abstracts covered diverse topics, ranging from public health issues to innovative healthcare technologies. The conference served as a platform for students to share their findings with peers and professionals, while also receiving constructive feedback to further improve their work.

Medical Camp: As part of the assembly’s community outreach, TAMSA organized a two-day medical camp providing free screening for both communicable and non-communicable diseases. The camp raised awareness on essential health topics such as antimicrobial resistance, cervical cancer, and mental health.
Notable Speakers
We were honored to have several distinguished speakers at the event, including Dr. Jesca Lebba, Mwanza Regional Medical Officer, who delivered an impactful keynote address on the future of healthcare in Tanzania. Dr. Mugisha Nkoronko, President of the Medical Association of Tanzania, shared valuable insights on medical practice and leadership in the field. Additionally, Hon. Neema Lugangira, Member of Parliament, attended and emphasized the importance of youth involvement in healthcare policy formation.
Post-Assembly Event
To conclude the successful gathering, TAMSA organized a post-General Assembly event at Saanane Island National Park, where delegates had the chance to relax, network, and enjoy the natural beauty of Mwanza after an engaging week of learning and discussions.
